About me
Co-coordinator of the iyinimin sīpīsis/Blueberry Creek National Healing Forest (established in Alberta in 2022), Janina invites you to share in the path of creating Healing Forests and spaces towards reconciliation and healing in nature. Janina is a passionate naturalist, educator, musician, World Flutes Instructor and Viking re-enactor. She has taught a wide variety of subjects in many grades for more than 30 years up in the Peace Country of Northern Alberta and currently teaches Gr 1-5 music and Grade 5 in Wild Rose School Division. Connecting people with the land, themselves, and each other has always been a vision and lifestyle for Janina. Years of enjoying nature and multicultural events on many levels has only increased this passion. Janina spent her youth growing up on the pow-wow circuit in Alberta and has long been involved with and felt a part of Indigenous communities in which she was connected. She is the owner of Hamingja - Heritage Farm & Nature Preserve in Central Alberta, a Viking themed space where she now raises an ancient breed of Scottish Soay Sheep, land race Icelandic Chickens, Icelandic sheep, honeybees, rainbow trout, and several other varieties of livestock. When not teaching or farming, Janina enjoys travelling and has visited Ireland, the UK, Norway, and Iceland where she also enjoys connecting with the land and its stories.
